July 23 – Longtime civic leader Brian Foster announces he will seek Post 2 Alderman-At-Large seat on City Council

By Lou Phelps, Savannah Business Journal

July 23, 2015 - Brian Foster, longtime civic leader and retired president and CEO of First Chatham Bank, announced Thursday the launch of his “Foster For Savannah” campaign.  He intends to file his Letter of Intent as a candidate for the At-Large Post 2 slot on Savannah City Council. It is the first time that a business executive of his stature has run for the City Council in a number of years, in the opinion of those close to local politics.

“I believe I have the financial skills and management experience to get city government on the right track,” said Foster.  “With a perspective as both a Savannah homeowner and as someone who has done business with thousands of people in Savannah, I’ll bring a unique and independent viewpoint to city council.”

Brian and his wife of 42 years, Lynn Foster, have lived in Savannah for 25 years, currently residing in the Historic District.

He is the retired president and CEO of First Chatham Bank and has served as president or chairman of several local organizations including Rotary Club of Savannah, the Savannah Economic Development Authority and the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce.

He is currently Chairman of the Board of the Savannah Technical College Foundation, and has also served on the prestigious board of the Georgia Economic Development Authority.

"I'm excited to see someone of his stature throw his hat in the ring," said Ruel Joyner today, on hearing the official word that Foster was in, rumored for several weeks. "I'm excited to see that someone with that type of experience, and that type of love for Savannah is going to do more than talk - to role up his sleeves and be willing to serve," he added. Joyner is president of the Downtown Business Association, and Owner/President of 24e Design Co.
