Oct. 17 – Congressman Carter, State Rep. Gilliard to host meeting today with HUD Reps to discuss Westlake Apartments

October 17, 2016 -Congressman Earl L. "Buddy" Carter (GA-01) and State Representative Carl Gilliard will host a meeting today to discuss response to Hurricane Matthew damage at the Westlake Apartments.

In addition to Carter and Gilliard, attendees at the meeting will include State Senator Lester Jackson, the American Red Cross, local elected officials, representatives from state and federal agencies, and community supporters.

A Housing & Urban Development Agency (HUD) disaster recovery team that focuses on Section 8 multi-family properties was in Savannah today, reviewing the living conditions at the Westlake Apartments complex.

Residents have been told that they cannot return, but there has been significant confusion about where there were to go.  And, there are questions and complaints about the conditions at the apartment complex that existed prior to Hurricane Matthew, according to residents.

The media will be provided access to the meeting to report the news.

The meeting will be held at the Garden City City Hall Building, Training Room 6, 100 Central Avenue, Garden City, GA 31405 at 6 p.m.
