Savannah Business Journal Staff Report

December 2, 2019 - St. Joseph’s Candler’s African American Health Information & Resource Center (AAHIRC) recently added Allison Griswold as the new Youth Health Coordinator II. A recent graduate of Georgia Southern University’s Public Health program, Griswold is continuing her education at Mercer University which she is pursuing her Master of Health Informatics degree.

As the Youth Health Coordinator II, Griswold will help to create, maintain and market the HERO Database, as community health resource designed to connect community members to health resources and empower our neighbors to be their own wellness advocate. This detailed resource includes both health and social services in the Savannah community and will be especially vital for low income residents to provide a one-stop, all-inclusive resource of available assistance.

“In this new position, I am excited to bring awareness about a resourceful tool that can impact lives on many levels,” shares Allison Griswold. “This position will provide me the opportunity to embed confidence into individuals to ensure that they can be their own hero when it comes to locating health and social services.”

The AAHIRC’s HERO Database is a key step in improving community linkages to available social and medical resources available to them. The HERO Database is supported by the YMCA of Coastal Georgia and Healthy Savannah through grant funding awarded through the Center for Disease Control’s REACH program to close the gap in health disparities among priority populations in Savannah and Chatham County.

For more information about the HERO database, please contact Allison Griswold at 912.447.6605.
