Savannah Business Journal Staff Report

April 10, 2019 - Stephanie Long has joined the staff of the Jekyll Island Authority as museum general manager. In this role she develops and implements educational and experience-based programs for Mosaic, the reimagined Jekyll Island Museum. She is also responsible for staffing, scheduling, budget, and management of the new museum, which opens April 27, and the historic landmark district tour program.

Long previously served as director of the Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum in Temple, Texas and the senior curator of collections for the Museum Administration Office of the City of Las Cruces, New Mexico. She has also held positions with the Thunderbird Lodge Preservation Society in Lake Tahoe, and the Colorado History Museum and the Colorado Historical Society, both based in Denver.

She earned a master’s degree in history museum studies from the Cooperstown Graduate Program of the State University of New York and a master’s degree in computer information systems from the University of Denver. As an undergraduate at Duke University, Long double majored in history and comparative area studies.

“Long’s experience in interdisciplinary museums makes her an ideal candidate to manage programs and operations for Mosaic, which features in-depth and interactive exhibits that guide visitors through the rich cultural and natural histories of Jekyll Island,” said Bruce Piatek, director of historic resources.

A public grand opening for Mosaic will be held on Saturday, April 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The celebration will feature historic characters, guided nature walks, a food truck, craft activities for children, and a tree planting.
