Savannah Business Journal Staff Report

January 2, 2019 - Savannah Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Alberts has successfully completed the Chief Fire Officer (CFO) credentialing process. The Commission on Professional Credentialing conferred the designation on Dec. 11, 2018; making Alberts one of just 1,339 CFOs worldwide.

The Commission on Professional Credentialing CFO designation program is a voluntary process designed to recognize individuals who demonstrate excellence in seven measured components – experience, education, professional development, professional contributions, association membership, community involvement and technical competence. To earn the CFO designation, Alberts was required to meet the seven component standards, identify a future professional development plan and complete a comprehensive peer review process.

Alberts successfully meets all of the organization’s stringent criteria. His designation as a CFO demonstrates his professionalism and commitment to the fire and emergency services.  During his 20-year career with Savannah Fire Alberts has held every rank from firefighter to Battalion Chief. He currently serves as Battalion Chief over Research and Planning. Alberts holds a Master’s Degree in Emergency and Disaster Management from American Military University as well as a bachelor’s degree in business management from Empire State College and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University at Buffalo. His Chief Fire Officer designation is valid for three years.

The Commission on Professional Credentialing - an entity of the Center for Public Safety Excellence, Inc. - administers the designation program. The Commission on Professional Credentialing consists of individuals from academia, federal and local government, as well as the fire and emergency medical services profession.
