Michael E. Viers has stepped down as President of First Chatham Bank, with headquarters in Savannah, as of last Friday.  Neither Viers nor the banks’ chairman of the board and CEO Brian Foster, were available for comment.  William M. Austin, Jr. is the bank’s chief operating officer.

 

Viers has over 21 years of corporate, commercial, and small business lending experience.

Three distinguished AASU Alumni will serve as the honorary co-chairs of the university’s annual “3 Days for AASU” campaign which kicks off this Tues., March 30 with a breakfast at 8 a.m.in the Armstrong Center Ballroom, 13040 Abercorn St.


AASU President Linda Bleicken will join business leaders and campaign honorary co-chairs Y. Allen Beall, Class of ’48; J. Cliff McCurry, Class of ’68; and Kaitlen Fulp, Class of ’08 and ’11.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society announced last week that C. Steven Eagle, managing partner of Seacrest Partners, Inc., a privately-held insurance brokerage and employee benefits consulting firm headquartered in Savannah, will serve as this year's Walk Chairman for The Georgia Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's annual Light The Night® Walk. The walk will be held in Savannah at Forsyth Park on Friday, October 15, 2010.

 

 As Chairman for the Light The Night Walk, Mr. Eagle will encourage Savannah area companies to join in the fight against blood cancer by forming corporate teams and participating in the Light The Night Walk events.

Sea Island Bank has promoted Cathy Burke Hall to Branch Manager / Vice President and Jamie Thompson to Workplace Solutions Coordinator.

 

Hall works at the Hodgson Memorial Dr. location while Thompson works at the Drayton Street office. 

 

“Both Hall and Thompson contribute professional skills developed through their unique past job experiences.  Their constant drive to bring an even higher level of service to Sea Island Bank is the reason for their promotions,” said Jerry Barton, Savannah City President for Sea Island Bank.

 

Hall’s new responsibilities will include the overall management of the branch. Thompson will continue his leadership role as an Asst. VP in addition to his new position as the Workplace Solutions Coordinator in Statesboro, Savannah and Metter.

The Susan G. Komen Savannah Race for the Cure Committee announced last week that Dr. Bertice Berry will be the distinguished guest and speaker at this year’s Survivor Reception, Friday, April 16th and Race day, Saturday, April 17th. Bertice Berry, PhD. is a sociologist, an author, a lecturer and an educator.  Berry, who defies stereotypes, grew up poor in Wilmington, Delaware, hold a Ph.D. in Sociology from Kent State University at the age of 26 and is know for using humor in her lectures to address such difficult subjects as racisms and sexism she was making a more profound impact.

Dr. Roy Davenport, principal of Scott Alternative Learning Center in Savannah, has been awarded the Neil Shorthouse Award, the Georgia Association of Alternative Education’s top honor for outstanding alternative education leadership. Dr. Davenport was honored at the GAAE Winter Conference in February.
