Aug. 29 - Savannah Philharmonic Welcomes McDowell Fogle as New Chorusmaster

Savannah Business Journal Staff Report

August 29, 2019 - Savannah Philharmonic has welcomed regional musician McDowell Fogle as the new Chorusmaster. Fogle assumes the role previously held by Dr. Matt Caine.

Apart from the Savannah Philharmonic Chorus, Fogle serves as the Director of Music for the Episcopal Church of St. Paul the Apostle in Savannah. Prior to his tenure at St. Paul’s, he served as Director of Music at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah, where he began the foundation of a professional music program and formed the Friends of Cathedral Music Concert Series.

Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Mr. Fogle holds degrees in Organ Performance and Choral Conducting from the University of Louisville (Bachelor of Music), the Manhattan School of Music, New York (Master of Music), Choral Studies with Dr. Dennis Keene (Voices of Ascension, New York) and Dr. James Jordan (Residency Program, Oxford, England), Gregorian Chant studies with the Benedictine Order (St. Meinrad School of Theology and St. John’s University), and a certification in Liturgy and Music (Archdiocese of Louisville). McDowell and his husband Gary Shelby, their two dogs, Jasper and Scout, and two cats, Miss B and Shelby, currently reside in Savannah and Tybee Island.

“I am excited and honored to join the Savannah Philharmonic and to work with the talented new Maestro Keitaro Harada,” Fogle said. “The 2019-20 season and beyond are going to be exciting for our organization!”

The mission of Savannah’s Philharmonic is to inform, instruct and enrich the community through orchestral and choral performances, and to promote and increase community knowledge and appreciation of the arts. The nonprofit organization’s vision is to be regarded as an essential musical, educational, cultural, and economic asset to the community.
