Savannah Business Journal Staff Report
November 7, 2019 - Garden City’s Cooper Center will host an open house on Nov. 14, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. following a multi-month renovation of the interior, exterior and playground, thanks to a generous grant from the Republic Services Charitable Foundation’s National Neighborhood Promise program. Since May 2019, volunteers from Republic Services, Garden City Staff, the Garden City Housing Team and Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity have participated in three work days at the center to improve the facilities to better serve the community. The center has served the neighborhood as a resource for over 40 years. The grant is part of a larger revitalization effort in the Rossignol Hill neighborhood.
The National Neighborhood Promise program is focused on renovating, restoring and revitalizing public places for the benefit of the entire community. These efforts complement continuing projects, including the completion of four Habitat homes this year in the neighborhood in addition to the Garden City Housing Team’s ongoing owner-occupied repair program.
