Savannah Business Journal Staff Report

October 24, 2019 - Hunger does not take holidays. The shelves at America's Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia have been depleted and they need immediate food assistance as the holidays are quickly approaching.

There are currently 137,410 people suffering from food insecurity in Coastal Georgia. America's Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia partners with over 280 agencies that procure food from the Second Harvest Food Bank in order to provide food to our neighbors in need across the 21 counties they serve.

One-in-six Americans are food insecure and struggle with not knowing where they will get their next meal — or how they will feed their children. The timing of this food drive request is crucial with the transition into the winter and holiday season.

America's Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia asks that businesses, faith-based organizations, neighborhoods or other organizations consider hosting a food drive. Every bit helps fill an empty plate!

Immediate requests are for canned protein like tuna, chicken and beef stew; canned vegetables and fruits; and shelf stable items like peanut butter, cereal, pasta, granola bars and mac and cheese. The main branch is located at 2501 E. President Street.
