September 6, 2019 - Savannah Philharmonic’s 2019-20 season will soon be underway, including the second year of the popular Sunday afternoon Larsen Musician Spotlight Series concerts. The series, which features collaborative initiatives between Philharmonic musicians, premier institutions and artists from Savannah and beyond, is set to launch at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15 with “Le Resistance, Composers in the modern era” at the Lutheran Church of the Ascension, 120 Bull St. Pianist and Soprano Laura Ball is slated to join the musicians of the Savannah Philharmonic for an elegant concert of newly commissioned works by James Naigus and Karen Walwyn, Spanish songs of Manuel de Falla, and Ernő Dohnányi’s dynamic Sextet in C major.

The Larsen Musician Spotlight Series consists of six Sunday afternoon concerts arranged throughout the 2019-20 season. Each concert presents a different perspective of Savannah Philharmonic’s involvement in the community and its mission to provide both residents and visitors an opportunity to attend chamber concerts of the highest artistic order. Major components of the new season will include educational and community outreach efforts with students from Savannah Arts Academy, premier and established ensembles such as Blue Heron and ARCO Chamber Orchestra (University of Georgia) and a commissioned piece from Georgia Southern University composer and faculty member Dr. Martin Gendelman.

“In addition to September’s delightful opening concert, “Le Resistance,” we’ll still have five other phenomenal performances to look forward to – “From UGA with Love,” “The Death of Romance,” “Strings United,” “Cinephile dujoure” and “Sympátheia” – scheduled throughout the rest of the season. I’d like to encourage everyone to join us for these affordable one hour, afternoon concerts,” says Savannah Philharmonic Executive Director, Terri O’Neil. “Subscriptions are the best way to enjoy the Savannah Philharmonic. Subscribers receive generous discounts and guaranteed seats for the Philharmonic Experience, Series 8, and the Student Suites. It's a wonderful opportunity to share the entire new season with us!”

Presented by Nancy & Ken Larsen, the Larsen Musician Spotlight Series is included in the Philharmonic Experience subscription package, or all six concerts may be purchased for a 20% discount. As part of the Student Larsen Musician Spotlight, students with a valid student ID may purchase all six concerts at a 50% discount.
