August 12, 2019 - August begins the season of learning and Goodwill is giving back to educators in a very big way.

Goodwill Southeast Georgia donated more than 1,000 free books to local teachers on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019 at the Goodwill Outlet and Jesup store.

Teachers were able to select up to 20 free books from an assortment of children’s books, from early learning picture books to readers, chapter books, craft/hobby, educational and teen and young adult series for older students. More than 50 teachers participated. This event provided a unique way to enhance classroom resources and enrich a students’ learning experience.

“We live in a technology world, but we still need to put physical books inside a student’s hands," said Tiffany Wissmach, teacher at Garden City Elementary School. "It is important to teach students how to be an independent reader instead of just filling them with information. That is why I always have a variety of books in my classroom. It is always great when an organization reaches out to support teachers in any way. Goodwill’s program will help us promote learning and empower students with knowledge in the classroom. I am looking forward to next year’s event!”

Goodwill powers their job training program opportunities through the retail sales of donated items. In fact, one bag of donations can provide a workbook and exam for a Hospitality Works! student that can help them receive an industry-wide certification.

The organization receives many donated books. These donations make it possible to make a positive impact in the community. Goodwill’s annual book intake from 27 donation sites are sufficient to help teachers and educators with this program.Learning is a core value at Goodwill, and it is important for the organization to support educators by providing resources for their classroom that give an opportunity for a better future.
