Savannah Business Journal Staf Report

April 16, 2019 - Senior Citizens, Inc (SCI) will receive 5% of net sales from Whole Foods Market Savannah on Thursday, April 18 as part of the company’s annual Community Giving Day, also known as 5% Day. All funds raised by Whole Foods Market will support Meals on Wheels, delivering freshly prepared meals to homebound seniors.

SCI delivers about 1,800 meals a day to older adults in Chatham, Bryan, Liberty, and Effingham counties. The meals are freshly prepared in the SCI Kitchen and provide needed nutrition for older adults. A team of volunteers and SCI drivers deliver the meals to homebound seniors.

Whole Food’s April Community Giving Day initiative is Community Food Systems, focusing on organizations, partnerships, projects and events that leverage food to strengthen communities through economic growth, sustainable sourcing, environmental stewardship, and powerful collaborations.

More than 500 Whole Foods Market locations will participate in the Community Giving Day by donating to organizations, projects, and programs that support the mission of strengthening communities through food.
