March 14 - Live Oak Public Libraries Accepting Donations

March 14, 2019 - Live Oak Public Libraries recently announced that it is accepting donations of gently used books, DVDs, and audiobook CDs to support the Library’s collection and library partnerships with community organizations.

Library locations accepting donated books, DVDs, and audiobook CDs are: Bull Street Library, Garden City Library, Hinesville Library, Islands Library, Oglethorpe Mall Library, Southwest Chatham Library, and Springfield Library.

“We are pleased to accept books, DVDs, and audiobook CDs that are in good condition and can be reused by libraries or our partner organizations,” said Tom Sloan, Library Executive Director. “Donated materials may be added to the Library’s collection or given to partner organizations for distribution as free materials to the communities they serve,” noted Sloan. 

“Accepting donated materials is an important way for Live Oak Public Libraries to benefit from the generosity of our community,” stated Charlotte Welch, Chair of the Regional Library Board. “We are particularly pleased that our community partnerships provide these free books to organizations that also seek to improve literacy and learning,” said Welch. 

Donations must meet specific criteria, which are posted at Donated items will be reviewed by library staff to determine their suitability for adding to the Library’s collection or for distribution to designated partner organizations.

Live Oak Public Libraries accepts donated materials with the understanding that LOPL may use or dispose of donations as LOPL determines is appropriate. LOPL does not provide evaluations or appraisals of gifts for tax deductions or other purposes.

Materials not accepted include music CDs, magazines, or books in poor condition. To ensure inaccurate information is not disseminated, LOPL will not accept encyclopedias, textbooks, or medical or legal materials.

Live Oak Public Libraries has a collection of more than 600,000 items plus thousands of ebooks and eaudiobooks available for download. LOPL also provides on-demand digital media services that allow patrons to borrow movies, music, audiobooks, ebooks, emagazines and comics, and TV shows to enjoy on their computer, tablet, phone, and TV.

Live Oak Public Libraries is a member of PINES, the public library automation and lending network for more than 300 Georgia libraries. With a PINES library card, patrons have access to a shared collection of 10.6 million books and other materials that can be delivered to their home library free of charge.
