May 14, 2018 - The Savannah Harbor Foundation recently presented the 2018 teacher of the year, Kiwonda Riley, with 17 Samsung Chromebook Laptops for use by her students at at Sol C. Johnson High School. The gifts were the result of a special $5,000 dispensation from the foundation in honor of Kiwonda’s Teacher of the Year achievement.

The Savannah Harbor Foundation felt it was important for Kiwonda to identify the best way to utilize the funds. To this end, Kiwonda and the school’s media coordinator proposed the best use of resources was to invest in technology for her International Baccalaureate students.

“I am overjoyed at the opportunity to support Kiwonda and Sol C. Johnson High School with this gift. Our mission is to uplift our neighborhoods and empower people to make positive change in their communities. I believe Ms. Riley's mission is congruent and know that these tools will make an incredible impact on the learning environment. Moreover, I was impressed with the plan created for ensured maintenance and longevity.  I look forward to raising more funds through the Seafood & Spirits Festival, golf tournaments and the Holiday Series to continue good works like this,” said David Moses, President of the Savannah Harbor Foundation.

The Savannah Harbor Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization founded in 2001 by the General Manager of The Westin Savannah Harbor, Mark Spadoni. Since 2001 The Savannah Harbor Foundation has raised over $500,000 for children's charities in the Savannah area. Earlier this year, the foundation donated over $65,000 to worthy causes including a $25,000 endowment for the Tourism Leadership Council Scholarship Fund.
