April 25 - American Heart Association To Celebrate Palmetto Heart Walk

Savannah Business Journal Staff Report

April 25, 2019 - The American Heart Association will hold its annual Palmetto Heart Walk on Saturday, April 27 at Shelter Cove Community Park on Hilton Head Island. More than 700 supporters and survivors are expected to attend and raise funds to support cardiovascular research and education. The Heart Walk raises awareness that walking 30 minutes a day greatly reduces your risk of heart disease and stroke, which are America’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers.

Activities begin at 8:30 a.m., and the walk starts at 9:30. Attendees can walk the one-mile loop or the 5k route. The Heart Walk will offer a 5k race, which starts at 8:30. Go Tri Events will be managing the 5K. For those entering the 5k race, there will be a $30 registration fee. Participants will receive a 5k t-shirt, and medals will be rewarded.

The AHA’s mission truly speaks to Le Baron as he is a stroke survivor and avid runner. “Heart disease and stroke can strike at any time, and it affects all ages, genders, and ethnicities. I would never in a million years think that I would have a stroke by the age of 37. This year, I’m honored to support the American Heart Association’s fight to end heart disease and stroke in our community. My goal is to encourage others to take charge of their health, so they can enjoy more of life’s precious moments,” said Le Baron.

To register as a team or individual for the Palmetto Heart Walk go to www.palmettoheartwalk.org.  There, you will also find the link to nominate someone for the LiveWise Lifestyle Change Award.
