Savannah Business Journal Staff Report

November 12, 2018 - The Grey Market is now open in Savannah, just a few blocks away from Mashama Bailey and Johno Morisano's award-winning restaurant, The Grey. Drawing inspiration from a NYC bodega — a nod to Johno and Mashama’s shared New York roots — and a Southern lunch counter, The Grey Market is a natural extension of the sense of community the duo created at The Grey. With the market, The Grey further serves Savannah with a convivial all-day spot for enticing fare alongside sundries and packaged foods.

The Grey Market welcomes guests for casual and playful cooking from Mashama at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The breakfast menu features classic items like biscuits & gravy of the day and milk bread French toast, while the lunch menu includes a melt of the day and a roast beef sandwich. All-day options include chopped chicken liver on rye, beet cured lox with cream cheese on a bagel and the NYC, a classic bacon, egg and cheese on a kaiser roll.

Baker Matt Molinari and Pastry Chef Natasha Gaskill serve a selection of baked goods: bagels, pain au chocolate, cookies, granola and pie. From the soda fountain, guests can sip refreshing options like an egg cream and specialty sodas utilizing homemade syrups. Meanwhile, The Grey Market offers a number of packaged goods, from snacks to toothpaste and razors, for locals and travelers seeking a forgotten supply.

Designed by Parts and Labor, The Grey Market takes visual cues from The Grey, which is set in a historic Greyhound bus terminal and has garnered acclaim for its striking design and preservation. Guests can enjoy a meal at the eight-seat lunch counter, one of the standing-room-only high-tops or at the outdoor tables. With a facade reminiscent of a classic New York storefront, guests of The Grey Market enjoy food, service and ambience that nourish the belly and the senses.
