July 17 - Savannah F&W Festival Announces Riverboat Luncheon Celebrity Chef Cruise

July 17, 2018 - The festival recently announced Virginia Willis as celebrity guest chef and cookbook author and host of the festival’s riverboat luncheon cruise. This interactive cooking demonstration will be taking place on board Savannah Riverboat Cruises’ Savannah River Queen, as the boat cruises down the Savannah River. The “Secrets of the Southern Table” Riverboat Luncheon Cruise is aptly named after Willis’ new cookbook making its debut this fall. Virginia Willis is a beloved Southern-cooking expert, award-winning author and television personality who travels throughout the south on a mission to document diversity and delve into the rich narrative shaping modern Southern food culture. Willis is a James Beard Award-winner for her cookbook Lighten Up, Y’all and has had several articles appear nationally including CNN, All Recipes, and Country Living. The Chicago Tribune has named her one of “Seven Food Writers You Need to Know.” Willis is also receiving her own TV series. Secrets of the Southern Table: A Food Lovers Tour of the Global South is currently in development for PBS.
Willis’s new cookbook, Secrets of the Southern Table: A Food Lover’s Tour of the Global South will be released in the fall. In Secrets of the Southern Table Willis travels throughout the South on a mission to document the diversity of Southern cuisine. Each chapter has 2 essays about a farmer, catcher, harvester, or maker as well as 10 recipes that reflect the cuisine of the modern South. Each “Secrets of the Southern Table” Riverboat Luncheon Cruise ticket purchased will be accompanied by a signed copy of the book. A gourmet lunch buffet will be available featuring one of Willis’s most popular recipes. The gourmet buffet will also include traditional Southern favorites and a souvenir glass with unlimited tastings of wines, beers, and spirits from a variety of tasting stations located on several decks of the ship. The event is presented by Barritt’s Ginger Beer.
The Riverboat Luncheon Cruise will offer its guests the opportunity to see the beauty of Savannah from the river. This one-of-a-kind festival offers an experience like no other and is an event that everyone aboard the ship is guaranteed to enjoy and remember. Willis will be available for a meet and greet and book signings after her cooking demonstration aboard the luncheon cruise.
The “Secrets of the Southern Table” event will take place November 9, 2018, boarding the ship at 12 pm; departing the River Street dock on Rousakis Plaza, at 1 pm and cruises until 2:30 p.m.
