Savannah Business Journal Staff Report
November 20, 2019 - The Second Annual #HonorMark 5K Run, Walk & Kids Fun Run will take place this Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019 at Hutchinson Island. The purpose of the #HonorMark race and initiative is to carry on a local hero’s legacy of service and sacrifice by giving back to the community he served through charitable donations. This year’s race includes a Virtual Run option – so that Mark’s friends and family all over the world can run to honor his life at the same time.
Mark Edward Hummeldorf served in the armed forces with the Marine Corp for 4 years and as a firefighter/paramedic for Southside Fire and EMS, Savannah Fire Rescue, and Parris Island Fire Rescue. During his time in the Marine Corp, Mark was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery, which he also exemplified daily in his actions as a first responder.
The race is supported by Savannah Union Fire Fighters, Service Brewing & Fleet Feet and will start at 8:30 a.m. on Hutchinson Island.
“We were so moved at the support of our race last year with over 250 participants, we feel it is our honor to continue to celebrate Mark’s life,” states good friend, fellow firefighter and race director, Tyler Carlson. “This family-friendly event is planned to help lift Angie and her children up.”
All area fire departments, Marines, Veterans, service members, paramedics, runners, walkers, crossfitters and red-blooded Americans are encouraged to participate to #HonorMark5k.
“Being a Veteran myself, I feel it is important for Fleet Feet to support causes like this, honoring those we have lost. We are proud to support this race and celebratory event,” states Mike Nadeau, owner of Fleet Feet Savannah.
