April 16 - Savannah Council on World Affairs Welcomes Dr. G.P. “Bud” Peterson, President, Georgia Institute of Technology

April 16, 2013 – Globalization and technology are changing the roles of higher education institutions. Being a regional or national university is no longer acceptable; institutions are expected to be global in nature; preparing students to be leaders and innovators who can thrive in any culture, in all countries, and to develop solutions to society’s global challenges. Increasingly the world is looking to U.S. research universities, like Georgia Tech, for technological innovations that will bolster the economy, enrich lives, and provide lifelong learning opportunities.

One particularly salient example is the link between the Georgia Ports Authority and Georgia Tech. Work performed at the Georgia Tech Panama Logistics Innovation and Research Center, in concert with the Savannah based Center of Innovation for Logistics include initiatives such as professional education courses and case studies on transportation and distribution.

Inaugurated in 2009, Georgia Institute of Technology’s 11th President G. P. “Bud” Peterson will talk about the changing expectations of U.S. higher education, including steps Georgia Tech is taking as part of an international initiative in its 25-year strategic plan, “Designing the Future.” Georgia Tech is committed to leadership in improving education and the human condition in Georgia, the United States, and around the globe through advance science and technology.
