April 3, 2013 – The Savannah Downtown Business Association (SDBA) is pleased to announce Jim Downs, executive director of the Savannah Waterfront Association, as the speaker during the April luncheon. The luncheon will take place at Woodville-Tompkins High School, 151 Coach Joe Turner St., on Wednesday, April 10. Networking will begin at 11:30 am followed by lunch at noon. The price is $25 for members and $35 for non-members. Reservations required by Friday, April 5 for discounted rates. All reservations must be made via the website at www.SavannahDBA.com.

Downs began his career at the U.S. Olympic Training Center as the Operations Coordinator.  He then began work on the U.S. Olympic Festivals in Los Angeles, San Antonio and St. Louis, working as the logistics director. In 1994, Downs was hired by ESPN as the third person hired to create and execute the very first Extreme Games, now known as the X Games. He also implemented a new ESPN venture, the Great Outdoor Games. Downs was then recruited to revamp all events for BASS, the world’s largest fishing organization, while overseeing all ESPN Outdoor events. Last year, he worked as the senior director of Operations for World Choir Games 2012, Inc., an event with 15,000 participants and 200 separate events. Downs was recently recruited as the executive director of the Savannah Waterfront Association, bringing with him an incredible expertise in the event planning field along with an amiable nature that makes him a very welcome addition in Savannah.

The mission of the SDBA is to promote a prosperous, unique business environment in downtown Savannah. Monthly luncheons provide downtown business professionals with an opportunity to expand their business by connecting with potential customers and business partners. The SDBA strives to present current, relevant topics at the luncheons that allow members and guests to stay up-to-date on issues faced by downtown businesses.
