Oct. 2 - The Nine Line Foundation Veteran’s Village Commences Initial Construction

Savannah Business Journal Staff Report

October 2, 2018 - Nine Line Foundation recently announced the commencement of construction for the Cove at Dundee Veterans Village in Savannah, Georgia.  As part of the housing project, Nine Line Foundation will be establishing its Nine Line Foundation Veteran’s Village and Work Training Program.

“The goal of this initiative is to turn the lives of these veterans around, both immediately and for the long term. This initiative goes beyond providing a roof over the heads of veterans, it will provide them with the skills necessary to reintegrate into society, and to learn and grow as individuals.  Simply put, this initiative is about providing healing and support to those who have given so much to this great country,” explains Nine Line Foundation Founder, Tyler Merritt.

The Foundation has partnered with the Chatham Savannah Authority for the Homeless to help with phase 1 of the Veteran’s Village project. In addition to providing housing to homeless veterans in the area, the Nine Line Foundation is partnering with Georgia Southern University's FORAM Sustainable Aquaponics Research Center to provide job skill training and certification in aquaponics farming for these veterans. Nine Line Foundation is also partnering with other nonprofit organizations to provide food, clothing, and counseling to the veterans who participate in the program.
The initial construction project is set to kick off October 20th at the Nine Line Apparel facility at 450 Fort Argyle Rd. in Savannah, Georgia. Volunteers will be framing 24 homes from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Then, these units will be transferred to their permanent site at The Cove at Dundee, where they will be finished at a later date.

“We realize that there’s a tremendous need here at home where Nine Line Apparel and the Nine Line Foundation were founded. Instead of talking about the problems our nation’s veterans face, we want to do something to help homeless veterans realize their potential and value,” says Merritt.
