Savannah Business Journal Staff Report
September 5, 2018 - United Community Bank was recently named one of the Best Banks to Work For in 2018 by American Banker and Best Companies Group. This recognition is based on employee satisfaction and celebrates the strong, positive culture found at United.
“Our people want to make a difference and our job is to provide the environment and culture that supports them in that endeavor,” said Lynn Harton, president and chief executive officer of United Community Banks, Inc. “Of all the awards we have received, this one is the most important. Being a great place to work attracts great people. Great people give great service, which has earned us the J.D. Power award for Customer Satisfaction in the Southeast for five consecutive years. Satisfied customers lead to additional business, which has driven our recognition for financial performance by Forbes. I couldn’t be prouder of, or more honored to work with, the great team we have here at United.”
Since 2013, the Best Banks to Work For program by American Banker and Best Companies Group has identified, recognized and honored U.S. banks for outstanding employee satisfaction. Full results of this year’s program are available online at American Banker and in the September issue of American Banker Magazine. Determining the Best Banks to Work For involves a two-step process. The first step includes an evaluation of participating companies’ workplace policies, practices, and demographics. In the second step, employee surveys are conducted to directly assess the experiences and attitudes of individual employees with respect to their workplace. The combined scores determine the top banks and the final ranking.
“Our annual ranking recognizes the financial institutions that are committed to investing in employees’ job satisfaction, career development and personal growth – a ‘return on assets’ that can be hard to measure by traditional means,” said Marc Hochstein, editor in chief of American Banker. “One of the most valuable assets for any organization is the team of people it employs, and banks are no exception.”
Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process and also analyzed the data and used their expertise to determine the final ranking. The program is open to commercial banks, thrifts, savings banks and other chartered retail financial institutions with at least 50 employees in the United States.
