SBJ Staff ReportJuly 18, 2011 - Rob Mitchell, former executive with the Walt Disney Company and president of Reynolds Plantation -- a nationally-renowned 14,000 acre golf community in Georgia, has joined Reed Development, where he will serve as president of Hampton Lake in Bluffton, and assist with strategic planning for the company’s future projects.
In making the announcement, John Reed, founder of Reed Development Company which developed, Belfair Plantation, Berkeley Hall, Hampton Hall and Hampton Lake as well as one of the founding development partners for Colleton River Plantation, said: “I am very excited to add Rob to our team. He will be tasked with several jobs within our organization, including working with me on designing future projects and assessing current opportunities in the region, but his main priority will be the management and successful completion of Hampton Lake."
“Rob’s record of achievements in our industry is significant,” noted Reed. “We are looking forward to him helping us build on the successes we have had here in the South Carolina Lowcountry.”
Mitchell’s impressive background includes nine years as president of Reynolds where he oversaw all aspects of development, operations, sales and marketing. In addition he has more than 20 years of management experience within the Walt Disney Company, was chief operating officer of the Kessler Collection of Hotels in Florida, a partner with Celebration Associates and most recently a consultant with the award-winning Cliffs Communities in North and South Carolina.
He is a Georgia Tech graduate, holds a master’s degree in Business Management from Rollins College and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School Program for Management Development. He also served in the United States Navy as a lieutenant and was a member of the US Olympic Kayaking Team at the 1972 Munich Olympics.
A long term member of the Urban Land Institute, Mitchell has been involved in numerous charitable organizations and with Christian ministry initiatives.
Reed Development Company
Founded by John Reed in 1977, Reed Development is a diversified real estate company which manages the acquisition, planning, development, operation, marketing and sales of master-planned communities and their amenities in the Lowcountry Region of South Carolina. Projects completed range in size from 900 to more than 2,000 acres.
Hampton Lake is comprised of more than 900 acres surrounding a man-made, 165 acre-fully stocked fresh water lake is its centerpiece along with a Lakeside Village and 340-acre nature preserve. In January 2009 the National Association of Homebuilders honored Hampton Lake with its “Best Community in America” award at its national convention.
