June 13, 2012 – In seven weeks, primary election voters in Southeast Georgia and across the state will decide whether 12 regional districts will be authorized to collect a one-percent sales tax for 10 years to fund transportation projects in their district - the Transportation Referendum or T-SPLOST as it is commonly identified.
As a state agency, the Department of Transportation and its employees must refrain from either supporting or opposing the measure. Rather, our role is to educate and inform voters about the referendum, Georgia's current transportation system, funding and anticipated future development.
Accordingly, as the election draws near and interest and questions arise, please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of service in providing information. Also, you may wish to consult the Department's Transportation Referendum Web page at www.dot.ga.gov/localgovernment/FundingPrograms
The Georgia Department of Transportation is committed to providing a safe, seamless and sustainable transportation system that supports Georgia's economy and is sensitive to both its citizens and its environment.
